Communication Sunday 16th Jan at 10:15am

Today the air force continue to fly planes from Puerto Natales  to Punta Arenas (Airport), organized by the Red Cross and the governing body.

The negotiations are also being continued to be able to transport tourists from Puerto Natales to El Calafate via road in authorized buses organized by the Red Cross.

We ask that all tourists in Puerto Natales make their way to the E-3 School (Escuela E-3) located at the end of Blanco Encalada Street. This is the centre of co-ordination and information of the Red Cross.

The Evacuation process has the following priority:
-       Tourists who are ill/or have some kind of medical problem
-       Pregnant woman
-       Tourists travelling with children
-       Older tourists
-       Young adult tourists

Yesterday (Saturday) approximately 700 people were evacuated from:
-       Puerto Natales to the Punta Arenas airport
-       Puerto Natales to El Calafate
-       Torres del Paine National Park to Argentina (through the Rio Don Guillermo Border).

Furthermore, for tourists that don´t have accommodation, will receive food, have access to bathroom facilities and a place to rest, (mattress and a blanket). Today (Sunday) the same will continue.

We ask all affected by this to maintain calm. Please bear in mind that the evacuation of passengers is very slow and complicated. It is also necessary to take care of security of passengers and comply with the border crossing procedures.

Please keep checking this website for any new developments.
